The Food Database

I received an email that had a good question.  So I am going to post it here, and the answer:

“Hello,

I am shopping for diet and nutrition software.  I found your website through a Google search.  Your software seems very nice and I’m interested, but I’d like to know — at the page http://www.weightlosssoftware.com/, I find the following:

"The food database is accurate. It is with a license from the latest  United States Department of Agriculture Nutrient Database for  Standard Reference, plus additions and corrections we internally manage."

The USDA Nutrient database is an important feature to me, so could you tell me what sort of thing you mean when you say "additions and corrections?"  In what way is the database being managed?  Is there a way to distinguish additions from the USDA entries?  Thank you.

Sincerely,

R. Main”

This is the answer:

“We don’t touch anything with the FDA database.  We add into a separate category foods that the fda does not include such Pizza Hot, McDonalds and the like.

Any category can be hidden from view, so if you are not into these foods, then you can just hide them.

We are planning to go over the FDA database in the coming months and remove some obvious typos in the food descriptions.  There are not many typos, a few to my knowledge.  But they need correcting.

In no way do we change nutritional values, such as calories, protein and any of the 140 nutrients the software tracks.”

Thanks.
